Meghan McCain bashes Daily Beast for headline suggesting she could vote for Trump over Biden

"The View" co-host Meghan McCain had a blistering response to a Daily Beast headline suggesting she could vote for President Trump in November despite McCain's previous vows that she would never support the current commander-in-chief.

During her appearance on Bravo's "Watch What Happens Live," host Andy Cohen stated his assumption that McCain would be voting for Biden, a longtime family friend.

"I'm not saying who I'm voting for ...," McCain answered. "I'm not voting for Trump, but I really want to see who he [Biden] chooses [as his running mate] and I want to see how this plays out and I want to see the debates."

Late Wednesday, The Daily Beast tweeted: "Meghan McCain won't commit to voting Biden (who eulogized her late father) over Trump (who called her late father 'not a war hero)."

McCain was clearly displeased when she saw the tweet Thursday morning.

"What in gods [sic] name is this horrific and macabre headline?!?" she exclaimed. "Also, I know journalism is hard for everyone at this website now but what about 'I’m not voting for Trump' is hard to understand?"

Other Twitter users piled on The Daily Beast, accusing the outlet of attempting to shame McCain into voting for the Democrat.

"Who the hell do you think you are telling someone else how they should vote," The Post Millennial staff writer Chad Felix Greene reacted.

"Always good to lecture someone about their dead father," Tablet Magazine associate editor Noah Baum wrote.

"How is it 'nonsensical' to say you're not voting for Trump but you may not vote for Biden?" The Dispatch editor-in-chief Jonah Goldberg asked.

  1. Meghan’s time on ‘The View’

McCain was only a guest host when she started on the show in 2008. She came back to guest host again in 2010. It wasn’t until 2017 that she was brought on full-time. Since coming into her full-time position, she and Joy Behar have constantly been at odds.

But despite her uncomfortable fights with Behar, McCain says the two of them actually get along.

“It really hurts my feelings!” McCain said in an interview of the rumors that she and Behar are always feuding. “It genuinely hurts my feelings because our dressing rooms are next door to each other and you and I have the same emotional reaction to things — sometimes in different ways — but we’re both upset equally, the equal amount of the same things. And I wish people would give us a break, for real.”

  2. Meghan McCain says she’s treated differently

As someone who brings such division to the show, there are consistent rumors floating around that McCain might be leaving the show. On a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, a fan asked McCain if she planned on returning to The View after her child is born.

“Why does everyone ask me if I’m getting fired or quitting every 20 seconds?” McCain asked. “No other host has to deal with this B.S. Yes, I’m coming back, it’s an election cycle, like, yes.”

She also took to Twitter to condemn people who continually ask about her leaving the show.

“Buncha jacka*ses on social media saying they hope I get fired from The View when I go on maternity leave because it will be a great excuse when I give birth,” she wrote before deleting the tweet. “[This] is why the patriarchy is alive [and] strong and why career women continue to put off starting families so long. Such bulls*it.”

The View may replace McCain temporarily while she is on maternity leave.

  3. Rumors about McCain being fired

This isn’t the first time that people have wondered about McCain’s spot on The View. Last year, sources close to her told The Daily Beast that things were getting to the point where McCain wondered if being on the show was worth the emotional toll it took on her every week.

But the show sided with McCain.

“We don’t want people to attack Meghan,” the show’s senior executive producer, Hilary Estey McLoughlin, told the outlet. “We’re happy to have Meghan there. I think she does want to be there. I think she wants to be on the show. She realizes it’s a very good platform for her and we love having her there. I feel like she will come back.”
