Nebraska Senator Machaela Cavanaugh on her 3 week filibuster to block anti-trans legislation

Image
Nebraska Senator Machaela Cavanaugh joins Jen Psaki to discuss a bill that targets the transgender community and would ban gender-affirming procedures and healthcare for Nebraska residents younger than 19. Cavanaugh has filibustered every bill that has come before the Nebraska legislature since February.  It was a mundane, unanimously supported bill on liquor taxation that saw state Sen. Machaela Cavanaugh take to the mic on the Nebraska Legislature floor last week. She offered her support, then spent the next three days discussing everything but the bill, including her favorite Girl Scout cookies, Omaha’s best doughnuts and the plot of the animated movie “Madagascar.” See Also: Senator Bernie Sanders also talks about his new book 'It's OK to be Angry about Capitalism.' She also spent that time railing against an unrelated bill that would outlaw gender-affirming therapies for those 18 and younger. It was the advancement of that bill out of committee that led Cavanaugh to

Dominion v. Fox News trial delay: Massive damages sought

Image
Dominion had sued Fox News for defamation seeking damages of $1.6 billion. It says it was defamed by the right-wing network when Fox hosts and guests claimed in 2020 that its voting systems illegally rigged the election against Donald Trump. Fox News has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, maintained it is “proud” of its 2020 election coverage, and argued that Dominion’s lawsuit represents a threat to the First Amendment. The network says the $1.6 billion figure is wildly inflated. As the case has progressed through the court system and more damning material has emerged, legal experts have expressed surprise that Fox has not settled the case. A settlement would avert what promises to be an excruciating and embarrassing several weeks for Fox. Some of the company’s highest-ranking executives and highest-profile hosts are scheduled to otherwise testify during the trial about the election lies promoted by the network in the wake of the 2020 election. If a panel of jurors side with Dominion

Senator Bernie Sanders also talks about his new book 'It's OK to be Angry about Capitalism.'

Image
Senator Bernie Sanders (VT-D) joins Jen Psaki for an exclusive interview to discuss Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, Democrat messaging on abortion, Trump's appeal to working class Americans and more. He also talks about his new book 'It's OK to be Angry about Capitalism.' T he Vermont senator Bernie Sanders has a predictably unsparing view of the effects of “unfettered capitalism”: it “destroys anything that gets in its way in the pursuit of profits. It destroys the environment. It destroys our democracy. It discards human beings without a second thought. It will never provide workers with the fulfillment that Americans have a right to expect from their careers. [And it is] propelled by uncontrollable greed and contempt for human decency.” The two-time presidential candidate makes his case with the usual horrifying numbers about the acceleration of inequality in America: 90% of our wealth is owned by one-tenth of 1% of the population; the wealth of 725 US billi

Top Biden health official: 'Everything is on the table' in response to abortion pill ruling

Image
Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra said on CNN last week, "What you saw — by that one judge, in that one court, in that one state — that’s not America."

Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tells CNN's Dana Bash that a Texas judge's ruling to revoke FDA approval for a key abortion pill is "an extraordinary example of judicial overreach."

Image
A ruling from U.S. District Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk on the abortion pill should just be outright ignored, said Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on CNN. And of course Anderson Cooper is fine with that. She used the excuse they use for everything, which the media is fine with. Call him a Trump judge and you don’t have to abide by his decisions. “Well, you know, I think rulings like this, and I think we’ve seen from the FDA and also from activity in Congress that some of these rulings, I think we’ve been preparing and anticipating for there being these egregious overreaches by members of the judiciary appointed by a right-wing Republican Party, whose goal for a very long time was to just pack these Courts with partisan Judges often under qualified or completely unqualified for the for their role.” "What you just heard me ask the secretary about was something that you called on the Biden administration to do, which is just to simply ignore the court ruling. That’s a pretty

Governor Gretchen Whitmer joins Jen Psaki to discuss gun reform and abortion rights in the state of Michigan, and her political future.

Image
While other states are engaged in the business of bigotry, we're protecting fundamental rights.  As Michigan's governor, Gretchen Whitmer ’ll always defend the rights of women and the LGBTQ+ community.  If you seek a pleasant peninsula (or two) where your rights are protected, look no further! The sister of Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, D-Mich., is reportedly considering a congressional run in New York, as Democrats set their sights on flipping back a once-blue seat in the state. Liz Whitmer Gereghty, sister of the Democratic Governor, currently resides in Westchester County, New York, and is reportedly considering launching her campaign in April. Two anonymous individuals close to the rumored candidate told Politico that Democrats are recruiting Gereghty to run for New York's 17th Congressional District, a house seat flipped red by Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N-Y., in the 2022 midterms. These are my siblings - brother Richard with whom I’ve traversed thousands of miles and

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan has escalated his probe into District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s prosecution of former President Trump by issuing a subpoena to one of his former prosecutors.

Image
Jim Jordan is subpoenaing a former attorney from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office who resigned in protest after Bragg wouldn’t pursue criminal charges against Trump o er his finances. There was a request from Jordan for Mark Pomerantz to appear voluntarily, but he declined. Thus the subpoena: I’m honestly not sure how much bearing this testimony will have on the current indictment and charges in New York, but it does have value in exposing the weaponization of law by these Manhattan prosecutors. I have my doubts that Pomerantz will actually show up despite the subpoena, because he knows that Biden’s DOJ won’t give two cents about prosecuting him based on a Republican subpoena. He will ignore it and nothing more will come of this.

Stormy Daniels says Former President Trump does not deserve incarceration

Image
Piers Morgan sat down with Stormy Daniels for an interview to discuss all things Trump and that interview airs tonight. In a preview clip released, Daniels is asked if she would get closure to see Trump jailed. During the stunning interview, Morgan asked Daniels if she was prepared to testify at a potential trial.  "It's daunting, but I look forward to it. You know what I mean? Because I have nothing to hide," she said. "I'm the only one that has been telling the truth. And, you know, it can't shame me anymore Daniels then said there is "absolutely" no doubt she would testify. "I think having them call me in and put me on the stand legitimizes my story and who I am. And if they don't, it almost feels like they're hiding me," Daniels said.  Despite being eager to take the stand, the adult film star doesn’t believe Trump deserves to land in jail – at least for the hush money case.  "I don't think that his crimes against me

Liberals Gain Control of Wisconsin Supreme Court for the first time in 15 years

Image
Democratic-backed Milwaukee County Circuit   Judge Janet Protasiewicz   won the crucial seat, defeating Republican-backed former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Dan Kelly.  The court will now be controlled 4-3 by left-leaning justices for at least the next two years. During that time, the court is expected to decide on a pending lawsuit challenging the state’s 1849 law  banning abortion. Protasiewicz, 60, described herself as feeling "delighted and thrilled" after voters elected her in the consequential contest that gave the court's liberal members a majority for the first time in 15 years. Over 1.7 million Wisconsin voters participated in the Tuesday election — surpassing the approximately 1.6 million voters who took part in the 2011 election, which elected Justice David Prosser. Wisconsin's Supreme Court race was also the most expensive in U.S. history, topping $42 million and nearly tripling the previous national record for a court race. "I feel great. I cou
